The Travelers Oracles foundation, and the heart of the story being re-told, are The 12 Voices. They are the twelve souls chosen to share the power of The Empty Throne. The Empty Throne represents the power, responsibility and the size of the space the Creator of this universe left behind when she herself moved on to go about her work in a place close but not quite like our own. They are the bearers of a world’s possibilities, granting us access to realities we might otherwise never reach. Though they are beings of immense power, they have chosen to return to Earth and other worlds that have not yet finished their journeys. They often live "normal" lives in our midst, unaware of their status until "The Event" or a time of great peril awakens them.
They are always paired with 2 witnesses each totalling 24 witnesses. The 24 Witnesses are Earth’s council, and since Earth is the living vehicle we are all traveling along with and on this journey the Earth herself is a witness in various forms as spaces, places, and occurrences of power, mystery, awe. But unlike The 12 Voices, The 24 Witnesses are not all working towards humanities, or earth, or any really world's growth. They are the living checks to The 12 Voices power and represent the pact the 12 made that they would always chain themselves each life to the means that would keep them from seizing The Empty Throne for themselves. Think of the witnesses as the inherent check and balances to a living system meant to keep the balance of a cosmos, world, or peoples. This often incredible, loving, terrifying, and bonecrushing journey these beings take with each other from world to world is the means in which incarnation, or the wheel of life is turned. Life to life. Day to day. World to World.
There are also 7 World Cards, each card representing a known fate, or current state of the 7 worlds known to The 12 Voices and The 24 Witnesses. The 7 World Cards are the price of the journey. They are rare, and when they align with a voice, and that voice has both of their chained witnesses present in the reading, one could interpret that as full reading. Full readings with a world card are not to be ignored. A door is open, or a path to new, unexplored or needed magic/kal, or incarnational work is about and you should take heed. It means that you are in synchronicity with what you seek, but always remember the world is the cost you will pay.The road you will walk to meet that Voice and those two Witnesses in balance. All magic/k has a cost. You can often use this deck and rarely get that combination, in fact the numerical odds are in the back of this manual.
