who am I?

I am the rev/awo lenny duncan( they/them) and I am grateful you are taking the time to check out my work, art, and practices.  I am a writer, scholar, and cultural producer working at the intersections of Black liberation, spirituality, and art. I am the bestselling author of Dear Church, and also the author of United States of Grace, Dear Revolutionaries, and Psalms of My People. A PhD candidate at the Graduate Theological Union, I seek to write about the bold, the prophetic, ( and love those in a book book proposal!)—work that fuse mysticism, rebellion, Black futures, queer theology, and radical imagination into transformative public scholarship. I have wrote for the academy, critically acclaimed podcasts for PRX and major corporate sponsors like Ben and Jerry's, and recently created another layer to the Meow Wolf multiverse. ( More deets in 2026!) 

I am a minister in the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries and believe in the gospel or good news of radical affirmation and inclusion. As a black trans minister my own personal spiritual, ancestral, and family practice as of December 2025  has led me to joyful celebration of my 5th year as an Osun Priest and I offer divination, God parent style mentorship, and other practices related to the Orisha and Ifá. I even occasionally still get asked to preach in the church. I still do the radical work of feeding, working with, and standing solidarity the poor, walking with the rejected, healing the harms my practices have caused my LGBTQIA+ siblings, and I am raising a family with my husband Sarah in San Diego CA.
